Julian Melhuish
Julian Melhuish is one Australia’s most awarded designers with some 8 D&AD awards, and 49 AGDAs to his name. He also worked at Saatchi & Saatchi for 15 years without filling in a timesheet - a proud achievement, unequalled as far as he knows.
Julian began his career in London’s genre-bending creative agencies AMV and DDB, before moving to Australia where he built Saatchi & Saatchi’s design division from an office of one, to an award-winning studio of ten. As the Creative Director, he lead and created iconic branding for such high-profile organisations as Sydney Olympic Park, Nova radio, Aussie home loans and UNSW.
For ten years he created talked-about marketing campaigns for Sydney Writers’ Festival helping transform the event from a small happening to a major cultural Festival and one of the top five of its kind in the world. Less sexy, perhaps, but no small feat, was the delivery of Toyota’s first-ever Brand Guidelines - an epic volume of more than 500 pages - for dealers and national ad agencies.
In 2011, after 15-years leading Saatchi & Saatchi’s design division to ever greater heights and accolades, Julian set up his own studio and has continued to deliver award-winning campaigns and branding identities for his esteemed clients, which include high-visibility government departments, large commercial brands and iconic not-for-profit organisations. For the cultural sector, he’s delivered eye-catching marketing for Sydney Festival and the Open Air Cinema’s most successful campaign that delivered record ticket sales.
Julian is committed to working collaboratively with clients to deliver smart, memorable and talked-about campaigns and brands that stand the test of time.
